Concertele, realizat de Edwin Outwater, cu o apariție specială din partea dirijorului Michael Tilson Thomas, a marcat aniversarea a 20 de ani de la prima reprezentație a Metallica alaturi de o orchestra, la Berkeley Community Theatre, în 1999. Aceasta reprezentatie a dus apoi la lansarea albumului live "S&M" (Symphony & Metallica).
Un film al concertelor sustinute in acest week-end de Metallica va fi proiectat in cinematografele din intreaga lume pe 9 octombrie.
Spectacolul de vineri a atras 16.000 de fani, iar Metallica si-au sustinut setul pe o scenă circulară, rotativă, înconjurati de cei 75 de membri ai Orchestrei din San Francisco.
Ambele concerte au fost împărțite în două și au inclus o interpretare a piesei "Anestezie (Pulling Teeth)" de pe albumul de debut, "Kill 'Em All", interpretat ca solo de basistul Orchestrei, Scott Pingel, ca omagiu pentru Cliff Burton (al cărui tată, în vârstă de 94 de ani, se afla în audiență).
